Laser Hair Removal
What is Laser Hair Removal
Already extremely popular, laser hair reduction is intended for those who are fed up with having to keep removing unwanted hair. It is also suitable for clients with abnormal hair growth. In some cases, excessive hair growth can become a psychological problem, which can affect relationships and the self-esteem.
At Nu, we only use the best products with clinically proven results. We use Fontana lasers, which are medical grade lasers and reputed to be the best, most reliable and most tested laser machines in the world. Fontana lasers give clients the very best results possible from laser treatment, so with Nu, you know you're getting the best.
Before your treatment, we request that you come in and have a chat to one of our practitioners to check your suitability, set a treatment plan and perform a patch test.
This treatment permanently changes the structure of hair, which inhibits further growth. A beam of laser is trained on the base of the hair follicle, reducing hair growth without damaging the surrounding area. Once the hair follicles have been treated, they are unlikely to re-grow (except under exceptional circumstances, if the client suffers from hormonal disorders, for instance), and thereby hair growth is prevented.
This is a completely personalized treatment. The Specialist will take account of your individual features: skin photo-type and skin colour, density and hair location and adjusts the treatment accordingly.
Treatment sessions last around 15 minutes to 1 hour. Although you might see a difference immediately the number of sessions required depends on the area of treatment. This will all be discussed at your consultation with our Skin Specialist.
The treatment is mildly uncomfortable and the laser has been described as feeling like "pin pricks." After treatment, skin will appear quite red and feel "tingly", however this will subside in a few hours. Rarely, some people may notice temporary, slight, skin discolouration and develop small blisters in the treated area. If these occur, they will heal in a short time.
How long does the procedure take?
Depending on the area being treated, the sessions can last between 5 and 30 minutes.
How long do the results last?
Laser hair removal is permanent.
Will the procedure hurt?
The procedure can be uncomfortable, so local anaesthetic gel is normally used in the area.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the colour, density and amount of hair being removed. We normally find that between 4-8 sessions are sufficient.
When can I go back to normal day-to-day activities?
You can go back to normal activities the same day. Though we recommend you avoid excessive heat for about two weeks after (e.g. sunbathing, sunbeds, saunas). Your skin may be quite red and swollen for a few days after the treatment, you should consider this if you're planning a trip or special day.
Are there any alternatives to this procedure?
Yes, there are many different forms of hair removal available, however laser is one of the most effective, safest and least painful forms of permanent hair removal.
Can I combine this procedure with other procedures?
Yes, many clients choose to have other procedures at the same time.
