What is Breast Uplift

Dec 2, 2016Posted by nameless

What is Breast Uplift (Mastopexy)

A breast uplift (Mastopexy) is a surgical technique, consisting of lifting and improving the existing shape of the breast. Breast uplift is often used to provide additional volume and firmness to breasts. Pregnancy and the natural ageing process often affect the firmness of the breast. Mastopexy is an ideal technique to reverse this process. The operation can be combined with a breast augmentation, to achieve best results.

Surgery

This surgical process is usually performed under general anaesthetic and lasts no more than 2-3 hours. In most cases, a circular incision is made around the areola, along with a vertical incision to the area under the breast. This type of incision heals very quickly and generally leaves minimal scarring. Sometimes your surgeon may advise an implant in combination with your uplift to add volume and firmness. In such cases, breast augmentation procedure will be performed along with breast uplift.

Aftercare

After the operation, a dressing is applied, any discomfort is likely to be moderate and will disappear in due course. For the first few days, the patient will experience tightness and discomfort in breasts, but should be able to resume everyday activities within three to four weeks. For few months post the surgery, we recommend avoiding heavy physical exercise and the use of a special support bra. At Nu Cosmetic Clinic, you will get free aftercare for lifetime. How long does the procedure take?

Depending on the complexity of the procedure, the surgery normally takes about 2-3 hours, not including time in recovery.

Are the results permanent?

The results of a breast uplift will remain for a substantial amount of time and your breasts will always be more pert than if you did not have the surgery. Over time, your breasts will sag again, however this can be delayed if you have smaller breasts, do not gain weight and remain fit and wear good quality, supportive bras.

When can I go back to normal day-to-day activities?

We recommend that people take two weeks off work following the procedure (more if your job is particularly physical). Strenuous activities, heavy lifting and intense exercise should be avoided for about 6 weeks after your surgery.

Are there any alternatives to this surgery?

No, the only way to substantially lift your breasts is by surgery.

Can I combine this procedure with other surgery?

Yes, you can combine this procedure with other breast or body surgeries. You can discuss this in full at your free consultation.

Will I have altered sensation in the area?

Whenever skin is cut, nerves are also cut; this may result in altered sensation to the area, particularly at the incision site. All care will be taken to maintain sensation as much as possible.

What weight should I be for surgery?

You should be at a healthy weight for your height when you have surgery as this lowers risks related to anaesthetic. For the best aesthetic results, we recommend that you are at your ideal weight at the time of surgery as further weight loss or gain can change the results of your surgery.

Am I too young/ too old for this procedure?

All clients must be at least 18 years of age to have surgery. We do not set an upper age limit for our procedures, suitability for surgery will be discussed at your free consultation with your surgeon.
