Jun 14, 2018

There are three kinds of HPV vaccines—Cervarix, Gardasil and Gardasil9 in the market. So what are the differences and which one we should take? Let me show you.

What are thr differences?

1. Functions

Cervarix can prevent infection from HPV-16 and HPV-18(and also cross protect against HPV-31, HPV-33 and HPV-45). According to international statistics, over 70% cervical cancers are caused by HPV-16 and HPV-18.

Gardasil can prevent against the infections of HPV-6, HPV-11, HPV-16 and HPV-18. Though HPV-6 and HPV-11 are not high-risk types, they can cause genital warts.

Gardasil9 can prevent infection from nine HPV subtypes include HPV-6, HPV-11, HPV-16, HPV-18, HPV-31, HPV-33, HPV-45, HPV-52 and HPV-58.

Besides, It can also protect against the precancerous changes of vulvar cancer and vaginal cancer, anal carcinoma, condyloma acuminata and 90% cervical cancers.

2. Age Limit

Cervarix is recommended for females aged 9 to 45; Gardasil for females aged 20 to 45; Gardasil9 for females aged 16 to 26 in mainland China.

The divisions are based on national clinical experimental data of females in different age groups. At present, there is no evidence that can certify that the vaccines are still effective for people who have been infected with HPV.

Therefore, it is best to take the vaccine before having sex behaviors.
